Privacy policy
Last updated 13 September 2026. The short version: the HTML you paste never leaves your browser. The site does serve advertising, and that is explained in full below.
The code you paste
Anything you type, paste or open in the tool panels stays on your device. The formatter, minifier, validator and editor are JavaScript files your browser downloads once and then executes locally. There is no server-side processing and no endpoint that your markup could be sent to.
This means your content is not transmitted, not received, not logged, not stored and not analysed. It is discarded when you close or reload the page. You can verify the claim directly: open your browser's developer tools, select the Network tab, paste some HTML and press Format. No network request is made.
Files you open
The Open file button uses your browser's local file reader. The file is read into memory on your device and placed in the input panel. It is not uploaded. Downloads are generated in the browser from what is already on screen.
What is stored on your device
| What | Where | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Theme preference | localStorage, key hfo-theme | Remembers whether you chose light or dark | Until you clear site data |
| Advertising cookies | Cookies set by ad networks | Ad delivery, frequency capping, measurement | Set by the network, typically up to 24 months |
The theme preference is a single word and contains nothing identifying. No cookie is set by this site itself.
Advertising
This site displays advertising supplied by third-party networks, including Google. Those networks and their partners use cookies and similar technologies to select and measure ads. This is what pays for the hosting and keeps the tools free and account-free.
Specifically:
- Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
- More about how Google uses data from sites that use its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Analytics
Aggregate traffic measurement may be used to understand which pages are visited and roughly where visitors come from. It records page-level information such as URL, referrer, approximate region, device type and browser. It does not record anything you type into the tools.
Server logs
Like every website, the hosting provider records standard request logs: IP address, timestamp, requested URL, referrer and user agent. These are used for security and to diagnose faults, and are retained for a limited period by the host.
Your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the GDPR gives you rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection over personal data held about you. Because this site holds no account data and no submitted content, the only relevant data is what ad networks and the hosting provider hold — exercise those rights with them, or write to us and we will point you in the right direction.
If you are a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to know what personal information is collected and to opt out of its sale. This site does not sell personal information. Advertising partners may share information for personalised advertising; the opt-out links above cover that.
You can also control cookies from your browser settings: block them, delete them, or allow only first-party cookies. Doing so will not affect the tools, which need no cookies to work.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Links to other sites
Some pages link to external resources such as the W3C validator or documentation. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and this one does not cover them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes will be summarised here rather than buried.
